5-MeO was quick to begin his affair with music early in life with the album "Breakdance" and practiced his popping and locking behind closed doors in his bedroom. By the time he reached high school, he was a multi-instrumentalist, playing everything from drums to guitar. In 1993 he attended his first rave and had an epiphany, "I want to do this." From there it went all downhill.Joining forces with the seminal "Galanta" crew on the East Coast,
he quickly learned the ropes of throwing underground parties from
outlaw events to full scale warehouse raves. But just throwing
parties was not enough. "I wanted to make the music! I wanted to make
the people dance!" he recalls. Learning to DJ under the guidance of
Galanta's daddy, DJ Jack MF, he was romanced by the sounds of early
breakbeat techno and 303 heavy acid house. Eventually landing on house
and techno as the sounds he would play, 5-MeO even made his way onto the
line-ups of a few big events playing with the likes of Osheen, Sameer
and Dante. After a brief hiatus and a move to the West Coast, 5-MeO
reinvested in music and began flirting with underground events again,
finally finding a home with the like minded Acid Totem collective.
Working the border between techno and house, his sound ranges
from dark and minimal to tracky and saturated. On any given full moon,
you can find 5-MeO playing under the stars and sharing his life long
obsession with music with the tribes of party people here, there, and
everywhere he can.
